Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will reopen its Terminal 2 (T2) on October 26 after an extensive refurbishment aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and operational efficiency. The revamped terminal incorporates state-of-the-art facilities such as self-baggage drop kiosks and the DigiYatra biometric-based seamless travel system, positioning T2 as a modern travel hub in India’s capital.
Under the airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the renovation plan for T2 focused on improving passenger throughput and reducing wait times through technology-driven solutions. Self-baggage drop counters will allow travelers to tag and deposit their luggage independently, minimizing check-in queues and expediting the boarding process. The integration of DigiYatra, a government-backed initiative, enables passengers to undergo biometric verification at various touchpoints within the terminal, including entry gates and boarding areas, facilitating contactless and hassle-free airport navigation.
Besides technological enhancements, the revamped T2 features upgraded infrastructure, expanded seating capacity, improved retail and dining options, and enhanced signage to streamline passenger flow. These improvements coincide with IGI Airport’s broader strategy to handle increasing passenger volumes and uphold high service standards.
Officials from DIAL highlighted that the reopening of T2 is a significant milestone in Delhi Airport’s ongoing modernization efforts. “Terminal 2’s revamp is designed to offer passengers a faster, safer, and more enjoyable travel experience leveraging cutting-edge technology,” a senior DIAL spokesperson said. The airport expects the new features to bolster operational resilience while aligning with the government’s vision of digitizing air travel and enhancing security through biometric authentication.
The upgraded terminal will primarily serve domestic routes, complementing existing Terminal 3, which handles international and select domestic flights. Travelers are advised to check their flight details and terminal information ahead of their journey to ensure a smooth transit.
